Obama tops Trump on Twitter with four of 2017's most liked tweets
Donald Trump may be the world’s most famous tweeter but that proclivity hasn’t helped him dethrone his predecessor in the role of commander in chief who has emerged on top in a roll call of Twitter’s top 2017 tweets.
Obama tops Trump on Twitter
As the year draws to a close, Barack Obama can lay claim to penning four of Twitter’s most liked tweets, while Trump fails to make the grade at all.
Highlighting the disparity in temperament between the two figures Obama’s most popular tweet consisted of a Nelson Mandela quote while Trump is best remembered for a gif of him apparently beating up a CNN journalist.

According to Twitter’s own year-in-review @BarackObama’s August tweet, a reaction to racist violence in Charlottesville, was the second most re-tweeted message of the year, trailing only a viral plea for chicken nuggets.

Unsurprisingly Trump was the most tweeted-about global leader and also the most frequently mentioned US politician but none of his individual missives managed to break through into the most-liked and most re-tweeted lists.
Of course with three weeks still to play for in which Trump is likely to be as prolific as ever Trump’s Twitter account could yet secure a spot.
